What to do
- 1Confirm the contact was accidental, not deliberate.
- 2No penalty applies — play the ball as it lies from wherever it stops.
- 3If it ends up unplayable, you can still use unplayable-ball relief separately.
Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 11.1), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
