What’s the penalty if your putt hits another ball on the green?

What to do
- 1Check where your original stroke was played from — on the green or off it.
- 2If both balls were on the green, add two penalty strokes in stroke play.
- 3Replace the other player’s ball on its original spot, then play your ball as it lies.
Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 11), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
