Bogey Avoidance
How it works
Each hole’s final score is compared to par, and holes at par or better are counted against total holes played to produce the percentage. Because big numbers hurt scoring average far more than missed birdie chances, this stat closely tracks lower scores, especially for higher-handicap players.
What's a good Bogey Avoidance?
PGA Tour players avoid bogey on roughly 80-85 percent of holes in a season. Amateurs vary hugely — a bogey golfer might avoid bogey on only 30-35 percent of holes — and raising that percentage, mainly through smarter course management off the tee, is usually the fastest route to breaking 100 or 90.
