What Is Scoring Average?

Scoring Average
How it works
Total strokes across all counted rounds are divided by rounds played, sometimes adjusted to a par-72 equivalent so courses of different par can be compared fairly. Unlike strokes gained, it isn’t normalized against a benchmark, so it’s affected by course difficulty, weather, and tee choice.
What's a good Scoring Average?
PGA Tour scoring averages cluster between 69 and 71 in a typical season. Recreational golfers vary enormously: bogey golfers average around 90-100, while a solid single-digit handicap amateur is usually in the high 70s to low 80s on a par-72 course.
