What to do

  1. 1Only exchange swing thoughts or strategy with your partner or your own caddie.
  2. 2Public information, like yardages or where hazards are, is always fine to ask about.
  3. 3If advice is improperly given or received, both players involved take the penalty.

Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 10.2a), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
