What happens if you sign for the wrong score?

What to do

  1. 1Double-check every hole score against your marker’s card before signing.
  2. 2If you signed for lower than you actually scored on any hole, you’re disqualified.
  3. 3If you signed for higher than you actually scored, the higher score stands — no disqualification.

Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 3.3b), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
