What happens if you sign for the wrong score?

What to do
- 1Double-check every hole score against your marker’s card before signing.
- 2If you signed for lower than you actually scored on any hole, you’re disqualified.
- 3If you signed for higher than you actually scored, the higher score stands — no disqualification.
Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 3.3b), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
