How do you take a drop correctly?

What to do
- 1Stand up straight and hold the ball at knee height, then let it drop straight down.
- 2Make sure the ball lands and comes to rest inside the relief area.
- 3If it rolls outside the relief area or nearer the hole, redrop it once more.
- 4If the second drop also fails to stay in the area, place the ball where it hit the ground.
Based on the modern Rules of Golf (Rule 14.3), as published by the USGA and The R&A and effective from the 2019 revision. Local rules can modify some situations — check the scorecard or with the committee when in doubt.
