Going for the Green

How it works

On eligible par 5s, each second shot is classified as a go-for-it attempt or a layup based on club and trajectory relative to the pin. Attempts are split into greens hit, greens missed, and shots finding a hazard or bunker, giving both a frequency and a success rate.

What's a good Going for the Green?

PGA Tour players go for reachable par 5s in two the large majority of the time and hit the green roughly 55-60 percent of those attempts. Amateurs succeed far less often, which is why laying up to a comfortable wedge distance often produces a lower expected score for shorter hitters.
