Proximity to the Hole
How it works
For every approach shot in a given distance band, the resulting distance from the hole is recorded and those distances are averaged. Splitting by yardage range matters because a 15-foot average from 100 yards is far better than a 15-foot average from 200 yards, and sources often split further by lie.
What's a good Proximity to the Hole?
From 150 yards, tour players average proximity around 30-33 feet from the fairway, while amateurs often average 50-70 feet or more from the same distance. Proximity worsens for both groups as yardage increases and when the shot comes from the rough.
