Strokes Gained: Off the Tee
How it works
Each tee shot’s result — the ball’s new distance and lie relative to the hole — is compared to the expected strokes to finish from there versus the expected strokes before the tee shot was hit. The difference is the strokes gained on that swing, and the round total sums every par 4 and par 5 tee shot.
What's a good Strokes Gained: Off the Tee?
Top PGA Tour drivers gain roughly +0.7 to +1.0 strokes per round off the tee, blending length and precision. Amateurs with fast swing speeds often gain distance but lose more to penalty areas and rough, so raw yardage alone doesn’t predict a strong off-the-tee number.
